초록
In medieval times, Vietnam, like Korea, were part of the investiture-tribute system, which existed in the confucian world of East Asia. As a result, Vietnam was often required to dispatch delegates to China. The literature recorded by these delegations sent to China have been handed down to descendants. Recently,China has published a collection of books by collecting and photo-printing this literature on the delegates' trips to China, which is titled A compilation of literatures by the Vietnamese delegates' trips to china (abbreviated to Jip-sung below). This dissertation takes a brief look at the data recorded in the 25 volumes of Jip-sung, and sheds a light on the need for further study in the future, building on research and studies on this literature by Vietnamese delegates' trips to China conducted at home and abroad. Chapter 2 and 3 give a brief overview on materials recorded in Jip-sung and creates a bibliography of the literature made as a result of the delegation's trip. It also takes a look at how many volume of these literatures there are, the prevailing attitudes in the respective period, the conditions of publish (e.g. - whether to copy or to publish in a form of a block book edition). In addition, this dissertation examines what a delegate's trip to China was like, how many days he stayed, as well as the size of the diplomatic corps or the delegation. In Chapter 4, I review the contents of the records of the delegations trips, and also the trends in studies conducted at home and abroad by taking a brief overview from the aspect of the existence of these literatures. First, while viewing the contents of these historial documents, I was given a chance to have a better understanding about Chinese history and culture. I found China, that I originally considered an ideal country up to now, was facing a dtry reality. Meanwhile, it was a great opportunity for me to look back to nsideredand reflect on myself. We have yid to see enough of these studies which aim to examine such poime of views from the delegation or their awareness which lies betw nsilines isidistorical documents. Second, by looking over this literature, I was able to rethink the Sino-barbarian dichotomy. The studies that focus on the Sino-barbarian dichotomy have been done on and off. However, with regard to studies on the Sino-barbarian dichotomy from the Vietnamese perspective that appears in this literature, we have not seen such studies made in earnest. Third, literatures from the delegation's trip include contemporary writing that the Korean and Vietnamese delegates sent each other during the Chosun dynasty. We have witnessed many prominent studies on these comtemporary writings. From Jip-sung, I found out that there is much data that we have yet to touch upon for such studies. Therefore, there is a need to add this data to future comprehensive study. Fourth, there is not only literature on these trips to China by the delegation written by Chinese, but chu Nom or the Vietnamese version of it. As chu Nom literature prospered, we need to keep in mind the fact that both the Chinese editions of the literature on the trips to China by the delegation and the chu Nom or Vietnamese editions co-existed. Fifth, such records constitute a significant amount of data on Chinese literature criticism. In particular, we are able to approach such historial documents from the aspect of critique on Chinese contemporary writing. If we can overview thoroughly these criticism and reshape a history of it, we would shed a light on undiscovered areas for so long overlooked in our studies.
