The purpose of this study was to examine how a mother’s phubbing influences children’s media addiction tendency through the sequential mediation of a mother’s sensitivity and children’s self-regulation. For this purpose, data were collected from 230 mothers of preschool children aged 3 to 5 years using the Mother’s Phubbing Scale, the Mother’s Sensitivity Scale, the Children’s Self-Regulation Scale, and the Children’s Media Addiction Tendency Scale. Data were analyzed using SPSS 26.0 for correlation analysis and Hayes’ PROCESS macro v4.3.1 (2022) for sequential mediation analysis. The key findings of this study are summarized as follows: First, correlation analysis among mother’s phubbing, mother’s sensitivity, children’s self-regulation, and children’s media addiction tendency revealed a negative correlation between mother’s phubbing and mother’s sensitivity as well as children’s self-regulation. Other variables showed statistically significant positive correlations. Second, mother’s phubbing directly influenced children’s media addiction tendency and indirectly influenced it through the sequential mediation of mother’s sensitivity and children’s self-regulation. Furthermore, the individual mediating effects of mother’s sensitivity and children’s self-regulation in this relationship were also significant. In conclusion, this study verified that mother’s sensitivity and children’s self-regulation were sequential mediators in the relationship between mother’s phubbing and children’s media addiction tendencies. These findings emphasize the role of family factors, such as mother’s phubbing and sensitivity, and individual factors like children’s self-regulation, in addressing children’s media addiction tendencies
