This study aims to examine the relationship between perfectionism and disordered eating attitudes (hereafter DEA) among male and female adolescents with focusing on serial mediation effects of body dissatisfaction and depressive symptoms. A sample of 584 (male 305, female 279) adolescents aged 17-18 living in Ulsan completed offline survey, consisting child and Adolescent Perfectionism Scale (CAPS), Multidimensional Body Self-Relations Questionnaire (MBSRQ), The Korean version of Eating Attitudes Test-26 (EAT-26KA), and The Center for Epidemiology Studies Depression Scale (CES-D). Frequency, bivariate correlation, and serial mediation analyses utilizing PROCESS macro were conducted to assess the serial effects of perfectionism on DEA, mediated via body dissatisfaction and depressive symptoms according to gender. Main results are as follows; First, in male adolescents, relationship between self-oriented perfectionism and DEA was mediated by depression. Second, in female adolescents, a significant serial mediation effect was found in body dissatisfaction and depression. Third, all paths showed significant effects in socially prescribed perfectionism. Based on results, this study suggests a need for a better understanding of the relationship between perfectionism and DEA for male and female adolescents.
