This study is to analyze the poems by Han, Yong-Wun, a poet, a pioneer, a leader of national independence movement, and a national rights campaigner. Many researches have focused on his idea of buddhism or an ideology of national independence movement. In this study, several of his works that represent his nationalism are analyzed to show how his stream of nationalist sentiments is formulated. Through this, we can analyzed how these poems encapsulates the ideology of national independence consciousness. His poem, ‘Silence of the Lover,' is taken as an example. There are several unique ways of configuration. First, he expresses 'the lover' as a metaphor of a country or a nation. The expression of 'waiting' is a metaphor of palpable sense of loss, over tones of despair. But at the same time, these expressions also possess confidence, a broad mind, and fearless emotions. Second, the consciousness of absence of 'the lover' was expressed by metaphysical imaginations. He overcomes the realities of life by using metaphysical speculations and paradox. A women's acquiescent nature but strong confession are shaped to add the effect of an aesthetic sense. Third, readers can reconnect innumerable thoughts through his open-ended imaginary metaphor. Fourth, paradoxical question draws ideal thoughts or the realities of life. Finally, he provides a framework and space for generalization of the world and its people. In this study, it is shown that he lived as a leader of national independence movement through the literature and he successfully captured the spirit of nationalism through poems, which makes it possible for Korean people of that era to share the spirit in secret ways.
