This is a case study on group art therapy using altered books for children with smartphone overdependence to examine the changes in language, behavior, and artwork expression process, and the changes in smartphone overdependence and self-regulation. The subjects of the study were children in grades 4 and 5 who scored above the potential risk group for smartphone dependence among children using local children's centers, and a total of 15 sessions of group art therapy using altered book for 90 minutes twice a week were conducted. In addition, observations and diaries were kept for each session to find out the changes in the subjects' language, behavior, and artwork expression process, and qualitative analysis was conducted for each subject. Also, the pre- and post-scores of the relevant scales were compared and analyzed to determine changes in the subjects' smartphone dependence and self-regulation. The results of the study are as follows. First, the group art therapy using altered book promotes self-awareness and expression of the subjects, and helps positive interaction in the group through positive changes in language and behavior. Second, the subjects' smartphone overdependence decreased. Third, it showed positive changes in self-regulation. The significance of this study is that it confirmed that group art therapy using altered book has a positive effect on children with smartphone overdependence, and provided research data as an empirical example of the feasibility of using altered book in counseling practice.
