The primary aim of this study was to develop a career education group counseling program(CEGCP) for parents of elementary school children, and to verify whether the experiment group significantly improved the career awareness and career guidance behaviors of parents compared to the control group. 35 people were assigned to two groups, experimental group and control group, and six sessions were conducted once a week for six weeks to verify whether there were significant differences in dependent variables between pre and post points. To examine the effect of the group and the period of the measurement on each dependent measure, the group (experimental group, control group) was set as the variable between the groups, and the measurement period (pre, post) was set as the variable within the group. As a result of the analysis, the experimental group (n=18) showed a significant difference in the career guidance behavior and sub-variables, the career attitude guidance and the career ability guidance, compared to the control group (n=18). In addition, the experimental group exhibited significant differences in the career consciousness and sub-variables such as occupational understanding, occupational gender bias, the understanding for children, and career consciousness. On the other hand, there were no significant differences between the two groups in career orientation and career choice rationality, which are sub-variables of career consciousness. These results suggest that CEGCP developed in this study could be an appropriate alternative to the previous career education group program for parents. In addition, this study suggests that the necessity of career guidance considering children's interests and abilities and the latest information reflecting the changes of the times should be included in the program components and suggests that the direction of follow-up research such as developing the program for middle and high school students.
