초록

This study assumes the causes of the Korean economic crisis in 1997 to the weaknesses of the Korean economic structure and describes how the Kim Dae Jung government implemented the structural reform for the strengthening of the efficiency and competitive power of Korean economy. This paper points out that the structural reform could not be assessed as fully successful regarding the targets the government attempted to achieve, but it also could not be appraised to be a failure as the structural reform contributed a lot in overcoming the Korean currency and financial crisis earlier than expected and changed the Korean economic structure in an affirmative way under the critical situation. This paper also suggests that it is very important to establish a fair competitive market and emphasizes the importance of the social transparency for the sound development of the Korean economy.
