Platform companies have a tremendous influence on consumption patterns and information use throughout society through new methods of connection, mediation, communication, and economic activity. Big tech platform companies play a practical gatekeeping role in online social and economic activities with ‘rule-setting power’. Issues of fairness and neutrality regarding the rules of various games determined by platform companies themselves are continuously being raised. Due to the nature of platform companies, a small number of large companies occupy most of the market, increasing the need for policy responses to prevent monopoly and fair competition. This study seeks reasonable policy alternatives for platform companies by examining their value creation methods and corresponding social responsibility issues.
