This study investigated Virtual Reality-based Directed Music Imaging(VR-MI) effects on healthcare workers’ relaxation and mood compared to traditional Directed Music Imaging (MI). Thirty-six healthcare workers from Gyeonggi province hospitals were assigned to VR-MI(n=19) or MI(n=17) groups. The five-session intervention assessed pre-post changes using the Smith Relaxation States Inventory(SRSI) and Korean version of Profile of Mood States-Brief(K-POMS-B). Both interventions significantly improved relaxation and mood across most sessions without substantial between-group differences. Session-by-session analysis revealed VR-MI produced consistent relaxation improvements across all sessions and mood enhancements in most sessions, while traditional MI showed diminishing effects in later sessions. Results indicate VR technology offers an effective music imagery intervention alternative, providing more consistent therapeutic benefits through structured visual feedback.
