초록
This study explores how the interior murals of the Rockefeller Center RCA building represent utopianism through the lens of scientific and technological progress. The art program that governed public art of Rockefeller Center in selected “new frontier” as its theme, and intended to represent this in this murals. Jose M. Sert and Frank Brangwyn manufactured 14 murals. American Progress demonstrated through the unity of brain and brawn, the value of labor as shown by men working together on scaffolding, and the idealism driving vision are the root of the American ideology of progress. Time reveals a positive view through the depiction of aircraft, a symbol of contemporary technology and engineering that confirms the position of modern civilization, and contrails with no end in sight. This building murals represent utopia of time-process that allow the gradual development beyond the utopia of space-form, and condenses the positive future through progress.
