This study aims to re-examine Choi Seung-hee and secure korea dance cultural assets to discover novel and interesting cultural and educational content. this research may contribute to the development of dance education by re-creating Choi Seung-hee’s ‘Janggu Chum’ through VR. Traditional dance performances use to have only ‘performance-audience’ relationship. In this one-way dance viewing form, the audience could not appreciate the detailed facial expressions or movements of the dancers participating in the performance. However, by introducing virtual reality technology such as VR a ‘Janggu Chum’ performance contents shooting on stage and appreciation through headgear (HMD), one can experience a higher sense of immersion and realism through three-dimensional viewing experience. With this new level of technology, learners will have the opportunity to expand their vivid experience with dance and their rich understanding and knowledge of the work. To this end, the Writer filmed and produced a VR of Choi Seung-hee’s ‘Janggu Chum’ performance with four dimensions (front, side, back, center). A VR production of Choi Seung-hee’s ‘Janggu Chum’ can provide viewers an opportunity to understand dance movements through close-range viewing and experience the sense of realism. In particular, a VR product may be valuable as a preview for performance marketing before the performance and be kept as an archive after the performance. Choi Seung-hee’s ‘Janggu Chum’ VR dance content will become an important Korean cultural asset as well as an essential tool for dance education. Furthermore, the digitalization of Korean folk dance may secure and preserve its value as a cultural asset in the context of world cultural tradition.
