We report dramatic variations in the photophysical properties of pyronin molecules incorporated inside zeolite crystals, such as zeolite-L and AlPO4-5, that have similar channel sizes. The photophysical properties of organic dye molecules inside different zeolitic structures were studied by means of fluorescence polarization. The experimental results indicate that a dye molecule is strongly affected by the framework structure of the zeolite host. From these results, we demonstrate that the specific geometry of the zeolite channels induces an angle dependence in fluorescence spectroscopy. Supramolecularly-organized systems for anisotropic photoluminescence with high dichroic ratio should be useful for fundamental studies of the electronic confinement of organic molecules and for developing zeolite-based advanced materials.
