초록
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the elements of fun and types of fun contained in the traditional classical work, The Nutcracker. Methods: After examining the contents of the previous research on ‘fun’ and ‘The Nutcracker’ as theoretical background and watching the performance of the ballet ‘The Nutcracker’, the parts that were lacking were rewatched through video, and the reactions felt by the audience through the Internet or SNS were examined, and the fun factors of < The Nutcracker > were analyzed based on the essence of ‘fun’. In this analysis, the elements that constitute fun were inferred based on the study of Kim Yong-ik (2013), and the classification of fun elements was inferred based on the study of Ha Ju-il and Kim Gyeong-su (2014). Result: The fun elements are first, challenge and achievement. Second, participation and immersion. Third, unexpected developments and differences from reality. Fourth, emotional responses of the main characters and cast in < The Nutcracker >. Fifth, social interactions in < The Nutcracker >. Sixth, predictability and uncertainty. And when looking at the fun types of < The Nutcracker >, the imaginative fun elements include the doll’s transformation, fairytale-like world, the candy fairy and dance, and battle scenes. The challenging fun elements include elaborate technical movements, stage complexity, various dance styles, dramatic expressions, and collaboration with partnerships. The sensory fun elements include splendid stage settings and costumes, various dance styles, Tchaikovsky’s music, lighting effects, emotional expression and the aesthetics of dance, and the combination of sensory impressions. The social fun elements include the values of family and community, children’s imagination and social growth, reproduction of classical social norms, femininity and roles, social status and economic background, and the meeting of cultural tradition and modernity. Conclusion: < The Nutcracker > contains a story where the boundaries between reality and magic are blurred, providing a mysterious and fantastic experience. The excellent technique and expressiveness of the dancers, the warm story and emotional lines, the unique characters, the stage design that stimulates the imagination, and the captivating music are the fun elements that make the audience look forward to < The Nutcracker > every year.
