초록

This study aimed to explore the educational effects of applying the Arts PROPEL theory, an arts education project conducted by Project Zero, a research group at Harvard University, to group piano lessons and to propose new directions for group piano instruction. To achieve this, a group piano lesson program and evaluation tools based on the Arts PROPEL theory were developed and implemented with three elementary school students over six sessions. The educational effects were then investigated. Comprehensive data collection included video recordings of the lessons, teacher observation journals written after each session, student journals and evaluation sheets completed during the lessons, practice plans, and student interviews. All collected materials were analyzed as a portfolio. The analysis revealed that group piano lessons incorporating the Arts PROPEL theory effectively enhanced students’ performance skills, cognitive thinking, musical attitudes, and musicianship. Additionally, the program proved effective in motivating students in their piano learning.
