This study analyzes the impact of extracurricular activities of high school students on their academic performance of the curriculum. For an empirical analysis, the subjects analyzed were 2, 325 high schools from the 2015 Education Information Disclosure System on the Elementary and Secondary Schools. The analysis results are as follows. First, extracurricular activities have a statistically significant impact on curriculum academic achievement. Second, among extracurricular activities, after-school programs (number of classes) had the highest positive impact. Third, among counseling activities, the counseling participation rate had a negative impact on academic achievement. Such research results show the development of emotional aspects and cognitive aspects are not independent of one another, and the results show consistency with the results of previous studies. Therefore, high school education program needs to be structured to have balance between the high school curriculum and extracurricular activities. In particular, it is important to note that it provides proof against claims that expansion of extracurricular activities has a negative impact on the cognitive improvement and development of student academic achievement. © 2017 International Information Institute.
