The Effects of Parents’ Educational Enthusiasm on School Adjustment of Children: The Mediating Effect of Self-esteem

The educational enthusiasm of Korean parents is considered to be a factor influencing children, but the empirical research on this is insufficient. The purpose of this study was to analyze the effect of parents' educational enthusiasm on school adjustment of children and the mediating effect of self-esteem. To achieve the purpose of the study, the 9th Korean Children Panel was analyzed by SPSS 22.0 program. The analysis method was reliability coefficient calculation, frequency analysis, descriptive statistics, Pearson’s correlation analysis, and hierarchical regression analysis. The results of this study are as follows: First, mother's educational enthusiasm and fathers' educational enthusiasm have a positive correlation with school adjustment and self-esteem. Second, mother's educational enthusiasm and father's educational enthusiasm had a mediating effect of self-esteem in the relationship of school adjustment. This study suggests that the children’s self-esteem acts as an important mediator in the relationship between educational enthusiasm of parents and school adaptation of children.
