양육 상황 속 음악 경험에 관한 질적 사례연구: 음악 전공 어머니를 중심으로

This study explores how mothers who majored in music experience music in their everyday parenting of infants and young children. In-depth interviews were conducted with three mothers, and the data were analyzed using a multiple case study design. Despite their shared musical background, the mothers did not experience music as a fixed entity but as a phenomenon that acquired different meanings across everyday parenting contexts. For Mother A, music was a site of unexpected encounters approached with openness, through which she discovered herself and her child anew. For Mother B, music was a space in which the atmosphere and sensory qualities of parenting scenes were composed, connecting the present moment to memory. For Mother C, it was experienced as a relational margin for reflecting on intervention and withholding. Across all three cases, mothers understood music not simply as a unidirectional stimulus or a mere educational tool, but as a relational experience shaped through selection and attunement within the mother–child relationship, co-creating emotions and interactions. Infants and young children also participated actively in these musical experiences. The findings demonstrate that music is deeply interwoven with the emotions, actions, and relationships of mothers and young children, co-constructing everyday parenting rather than merely serving as its background. They further suggest that music in the home can be understood beyond its developmental or educational functions, as a relational practice co-created by mothers, young children, and music.
