초록

This is a survey research which examines whether SNS is a blessing of participation or a curse of social conflicts. It compares if there is a difference between normal time and election period regarding social conflicts among social media users. Election usually makes social confrontation worse and it is confirmed this time in SNS environment. However, unlike the past before social media, self-efficacy of ordinary people on social change and resolving conflicts gets stronger as well. Disappearing ‘Silent majority’ is a new communication culture of Korea after social media’s growth. Weak-tie effect was more prominent than chamber-effect or group-polarization. The structure of Korean social conflicts was being restructured. The driving force was practicality rather than ethical value. Generation/Gender conflicts were getting fiercer than ideological struggle. Shyness of Korean conservative people was not found during election period but low self-efficacy was still there. Conservative people were as highly active as progressive group expressing themselves via posting opinion/reply and likes throughout the campaign. However, self-efficacy on social change and resolving conflicts was still lower than the other.
