Objectives The purposes of this study were to show the characteristics of community-education activists (CEAs) and to specify variables related to activity sustainability in the Innovational Education Districts (IEDs). Methods And then, this study analyzed the data of 220 cases collected in 3 IEDs, Seoul and Incheon. We identified the demogrphic characteristics, activity characteristics, growth experiences and sense of community, and demonstrated the predictors on activity sustainability. Results Key findings were follows. The activity ability and potential power of CEAs were high but their activity environments were very unstable and vulnerable. And their sustainability was affected by their sex, age, work discontinuance, personal effort for growth, growth experiences as a parent and CED, and sense of community. Conclusions This study suggests that institution improvement of IEDs schemes should be implemented for more performance, and intensive support for CEAs should be enforced for growth and sustainability of them.
