The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship among positive emotion, cognitive flexibility, social support and career adaptability based on the previous studies and the broaden-and-build theory of positive emotions and to verify the mediating effects of cognitive flexibility and social support in the relationship between positive emotion and career adaptability. To this end, this study implemented a survey involving 563 students in 4-year universities in Korea, and the data of 559 participants excluding 4 copies of the data that responded insincerely were analyzed through the structural equation model analysis method. The results of the analysis were as follows. First, it was found that positive emotion had positive effects on cognitive flexibility, social support, and career adaptability; cognitive flexibility on social support and career adaptability; and social support on career adaptability. Second, the partial mediating effect of cognitive flexibility was significant in the relationship between positive emotion and career adaptability. Third, the partial mediating effect of social support was significant in the relationship between positive emotion and career adaptability. Fourth, positive emotion influenced career adaptability through cognitive flexibility and social support sequentially. On the basis of these results, the utilization of positive emotion for the development of career adaptability of college students and suggestions for subsequent studies were discussed.
