초록

The purpose of this study are to analyze determinants of smart media skills and online economic participation of North Korean defectors and suggest policy implications. This study examined the relationship among North Korean defectors’ socio-demographic, Internet motives, social support, smart media skills and online economic participation by using the data from the 2017 Digital Divide Survey conducted by National Information Society Agency. The results show that socio-demographic variables, such as age, residential area, and household income, Internet motives and social support were analyzed as determinants that have significant effects on the smart media skills of North Korean defectors. We found evidence that North Korean defectors’ residential area, Internet motives, social support and smart media skills cause the differences of the online economic participation. Based on the results, the theoretical and policy implications for improving North Korean defectors’ smart media skills and their online economic participation are suggested.
