This study analyzes structural factors influencing employment vulnerability in manufacturing-special ized regions from a path dependence perspective. Using panel fixed-effects models and vulnerability-level group analysis for 29 Industrial Statistics Areas (ISAs) from 2017 to 2023, the results show that Service Unrelated Vari ety (SUV) mitigates employment instability (TEM) through portfolio effects, while Manufacturing Related Va riety (MRV) and Knowledge-Intensive Business Services (KIBS) improve the small-scale subcontracting employ ment structure (MCSE) as path-upgrading drivers. The buffering effects of diversification weaken significantly in regions with high manufacturing concentration, suggesting that excessive specialization constrains path transition and impedes employment quality improvement—an indirect indication of a lock-in trap at work. These findings indicate that alleviating employment vulnerability depends not on expanding individual factors but on achieving qualitative alignment among industrial structures, skill ecosystems, and innovation frameworks.
