A Biographical Research of an Elderly Woman Living AloneAfter the Death of Her SpouseHeerye Kim Abstract: The purpose of this study is to illuminate and explore the lives of elderly women living alone after the death of their spouses. The subjects of this study were elderly women living alone for 30 years after the death of their spouse. Data were collected by conducting four narrative interviews, and data were analyzed using the life history research method. To this end, the evidence data were categorized through open coding. As a result of the study, the life experience of the bereavement of the spouse was found to be the difficulty of caring for the spouse’s illness and the bereavement process. An elderly woman living alone after the bereavement of her spouse has adapted to life through the support of her family and participation in social life. Based on this study, the necessity of social support for women living alone after bereavement was discussed. In follow-up studies, it is necessary to expand the scope of study subjects.
