초록
In today's rapidly changing society, the ability to make predictions and decisions based on data is becoming an increasingly important value. Data science, as an interdisciplinary field responding to these societal demands, focuses on the practical process of collecting, analyzing, and interpreting data to solve real-world problems. This study examines the concept and educational value of data science education, analyzes recent research trends in both domestic and international contexts, and explores the potential for integrating data science education into the 2022 revised elementary mathematics curriculum in Korea. In particular, the study focuses on the “Data and Chance” domain, analyzing how the data-driven problem-solving process aligns with the curriculum’s achievement standards and suggesting directions for improvement. The findings indicate that the elementary mathematics curriculum, grounded in its statistical domain, shares structural similarities with key components of data science education and provides a partial foundation for implementing data-driven problem-solving processes—including problem identification, data collection, analysis, visualization, and communication. Based on this analysis, the study discusses the necessity of restructuring the curriculum to meaningfully incorporate data science education into elementary school mathematics.
