The purpose of this study was to determine if emotional regulation ability had any moderating effect on the relationship between family of origin experience and satisfaction of romantic relationship. A survey was conducted using a structured questionnaire in 381 unmarried men and women in their twenties or thirties. Data were analyzed mean of each variable, correlation analysis, multiple linear regression analysis. The results of these analyses can be summarized as follows: First, as for satisfaction of romantic relationship by the respondents characteristics, men who were younger, who had a date more frequently, and who considered getting married were more satisfied with their romantic relationship. Second, family of origin experience has emerged as a variable with a direct and indirect influence on the emotional regulation ability of individuals and the satisfaction of romantic relationships. Third, significant correlation was found among all of the variables, emotional regulation ability had partially mediating effects on the relationship between family of origin experience and satisfaction of romantic relationship. This study confirmed that emotional regulation ability had partially mediating effects on the relationship between family of origin experience and satisfaction of romantic relationship and suggested the importance of emotional regulation ability in the programs for improving romantic relationship.
