The purpose of this study is to examine the structural relationship between self-efficacy and social support as mediating factors in how social capital affects school adjustment among educationally alienated adolescents. The subjects of this study were 631 adolescents enrolled in middle and high schools who participated in the Dream Scholarship Program of the Samsung Dream Scholarship Foundation, and the data collected for the analysis of the performance of the scholarship program were provided by the Samsung Dream Scholarship Foundation. For the purpose of the study, a research question was set and the structural relationship between variables was analyzed using structural equation modeling. AMOS 26.0 was used as the statistical program for the analysis, and the significance test of the indirect effect was estimated by the bootstrapping method. The main findings are as follows. First, there were positive correlations between school adjustment and social capital, social support, and self-efficacy of educationally alienated adolescents, meaning that the higher the social capital, social support, and self-efficacy are, the higher the level of school adjustment becomes. Second, the direct effects of social support and self-efficacy on the school adjustment of educationally alienated adolescents were significant, while the direct effects of social capital were not found to be significant. Third, the independent mediating effects of social capital and self-efficacy on the effects of social capital on school adjustment of educationally alienated adolescents were significant, as were the combined multiple mediating effects of both factors. Finally, the discussion and implications of the findings are presented.
