This study investigates the Cultural Intelligence (CQ) of Vietnamese learners of Korean and its relationship with academic achievement. A total of 101 learners enrolled at K University in Seoul participated in the study. CQ was assessed using the Cultural Intelligence Scale (CQS), and academic achievement was evaluated based on end-of-semester grades. Quantitative analyses, including correlation, regression, and ANOVA, were conducted, complemented by qualitative data from interviews with learners and instructors. The findings reveal that cognitive and motivational CQ significantly enhance academic achievement, while metacognitive and behavioral CQ show no notable impact. Differences in motivational and behavioral CQ were observed based on proficiency levels and overseas residence, with higher proficiency and longer residence associated with greater CQ development. These results underscore the importance of cultural understanding and motivation in academic success and suggest that integrating CQ-focused strategies into educational practices can improve learning outcomes.
