초록
The purpose of this study is to determine how the spatial interaction characteristics between humans and robots affect the user perception of social robot appearance in the private user environment of an individual called home. The intention was to suggest the directions for future study on shape design and HRI of social robots in a more specific and objective approach. This study proceeded in the following manner. First, a literature search was conducted for user preference characteristics by appearance type of existing robots and HRI, and then a total of 25 experimental stimuli were developed by classifying the appearances of the robots in three types: humanoid, animal type, and thing type. After the exposure of five experimental stimuli to a total of 137 experimental participants with a Google questionnaire, they were asked to choose their preferred robot according to the presented four evaluation criteria. The following three conclusions were drawn as a result of this experiment: First, the shape of the robot must also be changed depending on the user environment of the social robot. Since the users’s needs vary according to the characteristics of the user environment, it is important to understand these differences in more detail. Second, a different type of robot appearance is required according to the user’s acceptance level for a social robot. The preference of a user who limits their living space with the robot to the living room and a user who allows up to the bedroom reveals the different types and shapes of robots. Therefore, it needs to look at the robot design that could resolve the psychological rejection of users. Finally, the interrelationship of the three elements of human, robot, and environment should be viewed through convergence and complex thinking. Humans will only begin harmonious coexistence with robots in one space when stable interactions are built well through a blending of each of the different characteristics.
