초록

The goal of this paper is not to limit music to individual art genres in Hegel’s Aesthetics, but to examine what meaningful relationship it can have with art itself and philosophy. From this point of view, the discussion of music in Hegel’s Aesthetics can be arranged as follows: First, In Hegel’s Aesthetics, his philosophical theory of music should not be reduced to just a discussion of music in a narrow sense. In Hegel’s aesthetics, music means art itself in a broad sense, and in this respect, his philosophical theory of music has its own position on the relationship between art and philosophy. The relationship between art and philosophy revealed through Hegel’s theory of music can be interpreted as primarily reflecting Hegel’s intention to establish a philosophy advantage over art. Second, however, it should not be overlooked that in Hegel’s Aesthetics, music remains ‘riddle’, ‘secret’ and ‘task’ that are not fully understood through philosophical thinking. In this respect, music still maintains a certain tense relationship with philosophy, and Hegel seems to be conscious of this constellation of music in his Aesthetics. Hegel saw that ‘general human interest in art’, expressed through music, still has a role to play in conjunction with philosophy, and most of all, it is revealed in his discussion of the constellation of music. The tension between music and philosophy in Hegel's Aesthetic can be interpreted as another expression of this companionship.
