일제강점기 기성 소설가들의아동청소년소설 서술기법 연구 -권경완(권환), 송영, 현덕을 중심으로-

초록

This study builds on previous research concerning the narrative techniques of children’s and young adult fiction produced by youth movement activists during the Japanese colonial period, shifting its focus to works by established novelists. It examines texts by Kwon Gyeong–wan, Song Yeong, and Hyeon Deok, analyzing their narrative situations and attitudes in order to identify the innovative techniques they developed. Kwon Gyeong–wan and Song Yeong both pioneered the use of first–person adolescent narrators in their early youth fiction. In these works, however, the adolescent narrator largely functions as a mediator of surface events. In “Father,” Kwon Gyeong–wan depicts the death of a Korean laborer in Japan through the voice of his son, employing a framed narrative in which another adolescent serves as an additional first–person intermediary, thereby enhancing the immediacy and authenticity of the narration. Similarly, in “The Teacher Who Was Driven Away,” Song Yeong exposes the injustice of a respected teacher’s forced dismissal through the limited perspective of a student narrator, revealing the absurdities of colonial reality. By contrast, beginning with “Though the Sky Is Clear,” Hyeon Deok turns to the everyday lives of adolescents and represents their inner conflicts and self–reflection through character–based focalization. In his work, adolescent figures emerge as fully realized subjects of perception rather than mere narrative conduits. By analyzing early examples of first–person narration and character focalization in children’s and young adult fiction by established writers of the colonial period, this study highlights the growing recognition of adolescents as perceptual and cognitive subjects within modern Korean literature.
