This study aims to activate the development of programs and technologies that apply music for health and therapy in the future by analyzing the trends of health and therapy related music technology patents in Korea, and to contribute to the development of the field of music therapy. The research method was to analyze the application status, International Patent Classification(IPC) code and its detailed description, and content of health and therapy related music technology patents registered in Korea Intellectual Property Rights Information Service (KIPRIS), a patent information search service. The results of the study are as follows: First, a total of 25 patents have been registered or published as health and therapy related music technology patents, and since the first application in 2010, about one patent has been filed each year, with the highest number of applications in 2020 at 5, and an average of about 3 applications per year. Second, a detailed analysis by the IPC code shows that patent applications were filed mostly under the following order: A61(52.94%), G06(13.24%), G16(10.29%), and G06(7.35%). Finally, we analyzed the content of the patent applications and found that there were mainly patent applications that did not mention a target, and there were many applications for technology development targeting the mind/emotions and the body. The most common music activity applied was listening, and there were mainly applications for program technology development. We hope that this study will help stimulate the development of music technologies related to health and therapy, and enable the development of technologies that can be applied in clinical practice.
