Objectives The purpose of this study is to explore and understand in-depth the changes that the experience has made in the lives and counseling scenes of the study participants through the stories of experiences after participating in the counselor's self-reflection group counseling. Methods To this end, two people who participated in the counselor's self-reflection group counseling were selected and the storied experience of each individual was analyzed by Clandinin and Connelly's (2000) narrative inquiry method. Narrative inquiry is a research methodology that explores individual experiences based on considerations of over time and context (Hong Young-sook, 2024). Results The study participants were continuing to learn to grow into an expert and human being by reflecting on the relationship in the past original family environment and that certain events have an effect on meeting clients in the current counseling room. Kim Ji-yu lived a good job of ‘taking care of and saving others’ on behalf of her weak and depressed mother. At the same time, inside, the desire for freedom swirled. This inner dynamic was intertwined with external situations and guided Kim Ji-yu to the current learning space. Lee Ji-hye grew up as an independent child, hidden by her younger brother in the original family environment. As a good worker, the life of being recognized by the external environment influenced the child, and through this, the present work and learning field was reached. When both experiencing painful events in life, they actively interacted with the external environment and encountered counseling education. And it was confirmed that this continued to the present where they reflected and grew their inner self. Participants had more intense experiences when using sensory tools such as body movements, images, and blocks other than text in the group process, and the tools they experienced deeply could be applied to clients in the counseling room. Conclusions This study is meaningful in that through the stories of the experiences of two counselors who are in the process of developing into experts, counselors were able to achieve reflection in the field and expand their understanding of the process of growth and change. In the future, it is expected that research to explore the experiences in the position of Gyowook participants will continue actively.
