The purpose of this study is to develop an SM-STEAM practice model for converged education of talented people for children in order to develop a detailed procedure model for the “creative design” stage of STEAM learning standards that can be utilized in the STEAM class design process. Also, the purpose is to propose actual application methods along with an extension of the scope of targets of this education in Korea by seeking the theoretical background of the philosophical, historical, educational, and essential meaning of “converged talented people education” (STEAM education) and its desirable application methods in class. The fourth industrial revolution requires a change of education for creative and talented people. With regard to the direction of creative public education, led by the government the STEAM education was the first in the world to be declared as a whole education process in 2017. The change of education that begins STEAM education as a full-fledged restructuring of the curriculum for first and second grade elementary school students should start from the early childhood period, which is the beginning of the cultivation of talented people in creative future science and technology. Accordingly, the “OECE model of SM-STEAM for early childhood education” that can be applied easily to teachers or child in the field of early childhood education was developed. The SM-STEAM of converged education during early childhood incorporates the elements of science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and arts and has teaching and learning procedures made up of experience, data and field study, discussion feedback, experimental exploration, and the exhibition of symbols, which are major teaching and learning methods of converged education. The “OECE model of SM-STEAM” has observation, exploration, structuring, and expression, and each stage has sub-factors of detailed activities. The OECE model will be a beginning of realizing true STEM education for teachers who are afraid of teaching science in the early childhood education curriculum, and teachers will be able to encourage the strengths of child and to propose a direction for the trend of the curriculum with the OECE model. The “OECE model of SM-STEAM” for a converged curriculum (STEAM) during early childhood will open up a beginning for the application of STEAM education to child and be the foundation of the development of a “converged talented people education (STEAM)” program.
