The objective of this research is to verify the mediation role of mindfulness and mentalization in the relationship between adult attachment and emotion regulation of university students. To do this, the researchers collected data from a survey of 451 university students in Seoul and Gyunggi-do region and set up a structural equating model. In the result from the data analyzed, the model was suitable. The hypothetical model set the path from mindfulness to mentalization, was more appropriate than the one that was not established in the between two variables route. Concretely, it is appeared that attachment anxiety and attachment avoidance influence mentalization through mindfulness and that mindfulness influences emotion dysregulation through mentalization. In addition, mindfulness completely mediated the effect of attachment anxiety and attachment avoidance on emotion regulation and mentalization fully mediated the effect of attachment anxiety and attachment avoidance on emotion regulation. Based on these results, suggestions for clinical counselling and the directions for follow-up research are discussed.
