초록

<Madonna with the Long Neck> was created by Parmigianino(1503 - 1540) between 1534 and 1540. The painting depicts the Madonna with the Child Jesus, angels, and Saint Hieronymus. Parmigianino, diverging from the proportionality and balance typical of High Renaissance art, used elongated and exaggerated forms to embody a new standard of beauty. The purpose of this paper is to reveal that the Virgin Mary depicted in <Madonna with a Long Neck> is a figure that meets the theological demands of the Roman Catholic Church at the time, and to examine how the artist's maniera was embodied within the religious tradition and cultural context of the time. <Madonna with the Long Neck> continues the tradition of the Madonna and Child typology, necessitating a review of biblical and literary sources for its references. In this painting, the Madonna is depicted as an 'immaculate' virgin who extends mercy to the faithful and assists in Christ's redemptive mission. Ultimately, the Madonna portrayed in this work embodies the ideals of feminine beauty as demanded by 16th-century theology and literature. Parmigianino, in this piece, integrates his distinctive formal language into the traditional Madonna iconography, thereby establishing a new standard of beauty.
