This study examines the influence of family-related values and economic and lifestyle characteristics on the perceived likelihood of various family formation types—such as living alone, non-marital cohabitation, and marriage—among never-married adults aged 20 to 40. Data from 726 never-married adults were analyzed using SPSS 26.0. Multiple regression analyses identify the factors associated with the likelihood of these family formation types. The findings are as follows: First, individuals who hold alternative perspectives on marriage and childbirth, have a lower positive perception of having children, prioritize work over family, have lower household income, experience greater difficulties in daily life, and are older tend to perceive a higher likelihood of living as a single-person household. Second, those who hold alternative perspectives on marriage and childbirth, are employed, perceive their subjective socioeconomic status as higher, live alone, experience greater difficulties in daily life, are younger, male, and have lower education tend to perceive a higher likelihood of non-marital cohabiting. Third, individuals less likely to endorse alternative perspectives on marriage and childbirth, hold a more positive perception of having children, prioritize family over work, are employed, perceive higher subjective socioeconomic status, live alone, are younger, and have higher education tend to perceive a higher likelihood of marriage. This study highlights the similarities and differences in the associated factors across different family formation types.
