초록
This study was conducted for confirming the effect of adolescents' neuroticism on academic achievement through depression and school adaptation. To this end, data from the 12th to 15th surveys of the Korean Children's Panel were used, and 278 data with no missing responses variables were selected and verified by the SPSS 28.0 and PROCESS Macro 4.2 programs. As a result, neuroticism, depression, school adaptation, and academic achievement were significantly correlated, confirming that a significant relationship between non-cognitive characteristics and academic achievement. In addition, depression and school adaptation significantly sequentially mediated the relationship between neuroticism and academic achievement. So, it was demonstrated that the stronger the neuroticism, the higher the tendency to depression, making school adaptation more difficult, which can eventually lower academic achievement. Based on this, educational intervention that can adjust the influence of non-cognitive characteristics of adolescents' to improve academic achievement were discussed.
