초록

In the post war of the U. S. Occupation period, Korea and Japan created new power structures and gender structures through making new constitutions and election laws respectively. The U. S. Occupation authorities intervened in the establishment of the constitutions and election laws of Korea and Japan, and wanted to transplant its democratic institutional forms in its occupied countries. During the constitution-making process, there was some enhancement in gender equality both in Korea and Japan. The purposes of this paper are as follows: First, it explores the processes of establishing gender structures in the constitution and election law making of the occupation period. Second, it illuminates the main actors that joined in forming a gender equality structure in both countries. Finally, it sheds lights on the roles of the Occupations in granting women’s suffrage and equal rights through constitution and election laws.
