The international relationship of Baekje in the mid-late 5th century Park, Youn-sun In the mid-late 5th century, Baekje’s international relationship circled mostly around the confrontation with Goguryeo. Baekje once had a memory of standing against Goguryeo with Gaya and Wae but still losing. Getting Shilla on their side was a very severe task for Baekje. For getting Shilla on their side they needed two things to do. One was influence of Goguryeo on Shilla. The other was the hostile relationship with Shilla and Wae. The first problem took some time, but since Shilla’s intention was strong, it could be accomplished. However, since Baekje’s partner Wae was opposing with Shilla, this fact could make the relationship creating with Shilla useless. Eventually Baekje could get Shilla as a back up. Shilla and Baekje’s alliance made Baekje and Wae’s relationship that went on until the early 5th century part up a little. Baekje and Shilla were standing against Goguryeo in the era of king Dongsung. It was a Shilla and Baekje against Goguryeo kind of mood, but ultimately, it was Baekje and Goguryeo’s fight at Shilla as the meeting point.
