This study drew from certain core topics related to global citizenship education and leadership that university students expect to receive. It did so by conducting a survey regarding the needs of the educational content of those students who are beneficiaries of this type of education, in order to expand and advance the subject of ‘Global Citizenship Education and Leadership’. This study aims to bring about various changes in this program and to further develop it for the benefit of the learners. In particular, this study aims to clarify the needs of the female students who are attending four-year universities in Korea. After receiving approval from the Bioethics Committee regarding the ethical nature of this study, 500 female students from four-year universities located in the Seoul and Gyeonggi areas were selected. A questionnaire survey was conducted to identify the perceptions of female university students, and to ascertain their need for the reinforcement of global citizenship education as a subject within their General Education curriculum. SPSS 23.0 and Amos 23.0 were used for data analysis of the survey results. The summary of the results of this study is as follows. First, female university students recognized that the most important role of general education education to be emphasized is to strengthen communication skills and to improve the quality and quantity of the subjects of general education. Second, female university students preferred conferring credits most among the global citizenship education and leadership education methods. Third, among the sub-factors of global citizenship education and leadership courses, the level of education required for the concept of leadership was the highest, followed by relational leadership, global issues, self-leadership, and the concept of global citizenship education. Fourth, by deriving the educational needs of the subject by detailed factors, the specific needs of learners in the field of global citizenship education and leadership were identified, and the application plan to improve the quality of the subject was discussed.
