The purpose of the study was to examine the factors affecting children’s social competence before they enter an elementary school. To achieve this, the study used 857 children from the Panel Study on Korean Children and we utilized regression analysis. The results were as follows. First, the only factor affecting preschool children’s social competence was the gender and girls’ social competence was higher compared to boys. In addition, among family factors, there were no factors to affect preschoolers’ social competence. Among teacher’s factors, teacher-child interaction and teacher’s teaching efficacy were statistically significant to preschoolers’ social competence. Second, children’s cooperation skills were related to gender and children’s playing time with media except all other variables. However, teacher-child interactions and teacher’s teaching efficacy affected children’s social competence. For children’s assertiveness was only related to parents’ educational levels. Third, children’s self-control was related to children’s gender and teacher’s teaching efficacy among other variables.
