This study examines Korean workers’ work values by disentangling generation and age effects and exploring their interaction. Generation effects are operationalized as birth cohorts, and the identification problem among age, period, and cohort is addressed by applying a hierarchical age-period-cohort(HAPC) model to 21 waves(6th-26th) of the Korean Labor and Income Panel Study(KLIPS). The results show that preferences for intrinsic work values―such as aligning work with one’s aptitude and interests―follow a U-shaped pattern over the life course, and that there are significant differences across birth cohorts. Moreover, generation and age effects interact, such that even within the same nominal generation, distinct birth cohorts exhibit heterogeneous value orientations. These findings provide an empirical basis for integrating generation and life-course theories and offer practical implications for the design of generation-sensitive human resource management strategies.
