초록

Goal functions as a major psychological motive to continue growing one's expertise in a professional field. The purpose of this study was to develop and verify the validity and reliability of the goal questionnaire for engineering experts. The questionnaire measures diverse goal characteristics (i.e., goal autonomy, goal commitment, goal attainability and intrinsic value of goal) and factors affecting the goal perception. To validate the questionnaire, 246 participants (90 experts in professional engineering fields and 154 undergraduate students who have career goals as becoming a future engineering expert) were sampled. The results confirmed internal reliability and validity of the Goal Questionnaire for Engineering Experts. The questionnaire showed good criterion-related validity with three criterion measures of meaning in life, career goal, and career decision-making. In addition, the level of goal perceptions of experts increased along with the development of expertise. Also, diverse personal and social factors included in the questionnaire showed high positive correlations with the goal perceptions measured by the questionnaire. These results indicated that the Goal Questionnaire for Engineering Expert be a reliable and valid instrument for measuring the goal perceptions of engineering experts and personal and social factors affecting the perceptions. In sum, we discussed the importance of the questionnaire as one of the domain specific questionnaires and the future directions of studies using the questionnaire.
