Under the circumstance of YouTube’s expanding influence, this study contemplates how university students recognize YouTube through the class activity of <Critical Thinking and Debate>. This study examined the two sides of YouTube through the debate class practices. It was done with the chosen a debate topic “YouTube should be controlled” and content analysis of students’ essays about “Usefulness of YouTube Utilization against Debate Education”. Students mentioned that Youtube has a positive aspect as a repository of data for communication education, can enhance the learning effect of digital native generation, and be of help to form a balanced view. One the other hand, students also mentioned that YouTube has negatives like the possibility of confirmation bias due to Youtube’s algorithm, the aspect of commercially misused, and structural problem of the digital platform that can make rapid spreading of fake news. Considering the results of a study, the learnercentered debate education has importance in training critical thinking through YouTube, developing team spirit and communication capability, media literacy. Through the learner-centered education process about YouTube platform, I could confirm the importance of <Critical Thinking and Debate> class as a place of university’s liberal education.
