Objectives The purposes of this study were to find out the recent trends in research related to interpersonal competence of domestic university students and implications for follow-up studies. Methods The author searched for the subjects of “interpersonal competence” from 1999 to 2024 in RISS, selected 208 articles published in journals registered in National Research Foundation of Korea. Frequency analysis was conducted by year, journal, research method, and research tool. For keyword network analysis, 932 keywords suggested by the original author were collected. 286 keywords were selected through data cleansing. Through TF, TF-IDF, and N-gram analysis using the Textom program, 51 main keywords were identified to build a keyword network, and centrality analysis and CONCOR analysis were performed and visualized. Results Since Han Na-ri and Lee Dong-gwi(2010)'s interpersonal competence scale for domestic university students has been developed, research has steadily increased and reached 30 articles in 2021 before decreasing. Among a total of 76 academic journals, ‘Journal of Learner-Centered Curriculum and Instruction’ published the most related articles. As a research method, 204 quantitative studies (98.1%) were conducted, and there were no qualitative studies at all. The most commonly used scale was Han Na-ri and Lee Dong-gwi(2010)’s K-ICQ. For the selection of major keywords, 51 keywords with an appearance frequency of 3 or higher were selected through TF and TF-IDF analysis. As a result of centrality analysis, it was revealed which keywords had a large influence with the large number of links and were compared with the results of frequency analysis. Finally, as a result of CONCOR analysis, 4 clusters were formed, and each cluster was found to explain ‘components of interpersonal competence’, ‘effects of interpersonal competence’, ‘factors related to interpersonal vulnerability’, and ‘interpersonal competence as a self-management competency’. Conclusions This study compared research trends of Lee Ju-yeon and Kim Dong-min (2023), and further described the network characteristics of keywords frequently studied in existing studies through keyword network analysis, and discussed implications for follow-up studies and limitations of this study.
