초록

This study explores the adaptation challenges of long-term resident foreign families in Korea and gathers insights from professionals to propose effective support measures. In-depth interviews with 33 foreign families and 13 professionals revealed that while families appreciated Korea’s infrastructure, education, and income levels, those in rural areas faced difficulties such as limited healthcare, high housing costs, and discrimination. Parents reported stress over education due to lack of information and high private education costs. Visa renewals and administrative processes caused ongoing stress, while limited Korean proficiency led to social isolation. Professionals noted that policies focused on short-term adaptation, while overlooking long-term needs. A shift toward comprehensive, life-cycle-based support, developed through collaboration between central and local governments and frontline professionals, is needed and essential for stable settlement and Korea’s sustainable multicultural development.
