This study is aim to find out the effect of positive psychological-based therapeutic music activities on life satisfaction and psychological well-being of a person with mental illness in mental health center. The participants were living in A City and registered at the M Health center, and a total of 41 were assigned to 19 experimental groups and 22 control groups. The experimental group applied a positive psychotherapy music activity program consisting of 10 sessions, 50 minutes per week. After the 10th session, post-testing was conducted for both groups. The test tool used a scale developed by Yang(1994) and revised by Kim(2004) to measure life satisfaction and to measure psychological well-being, a scale developed by Ryff(1989) and revised by Kim, Kim & Cha(2001) was used. The results are as follows. First, there was a significant change in the pre-post score of life satisfaction of the experimental group and a statistically significant difference between two groups. Second, there was a significant change in the psychological well-being pre-post score of the experimental group and a statistically significant difference between two groups. These findings suggest that positive psychology-based therapeutic music activities may be an effective intervention for improving life satisfaction and psychological well-being of people with mental illness, and can be used as a basis for developing music therapy programs for people with mental illness.
