초록

This paper aims at comparing two types of electronic dictionaries; the Naver internet dictionary and the D35 of Iriver Inc. in Korea, an hand-held electronic dictionary. Compared with paper dictionaries, electronic dictionaries are very convenient for users to look for words or phrases. They provide users with various methods for searching. Especially Naver internet dictionary(http://dic.naver.com)provides the tooltip dictionary which is a common graphical user interface element and used in conjunction with a cursor. Both provides users with searching methods of example sentences, collocations, synonyms, antonyms, and idioms. But D35does not provides the collocation searching method for the English-Korean dictionary. Both provide native speaker’s real sound for pronunciation informations of entries. but only the Naver dictionary gives sounds of example sentences. We could conclude that the Naver dictionary has more various searching methods and more information than D35.
