This study examines the acceptance of Bakhtin’s theory in Korean literature education and seeks ways to further activate his discussions within this field. Bakhtin’s thoughts have already penetrated deeply into literature education research to the extent that a kind of “canonization” can be observed. In this situation, in order for the “dialogue” between literature education and Bakhtin to continue, it is necessary to analyze how his theory has been applied in the realm of literature education. Therefore, this study provides an overview of Bakhtin’s discussion focusing on “slovo/discourse,” “dialogue/dialogism,” “polyphony,” “chronotope,” and “carnival,” and investigates how these terms have been accepted and appropriated in literature education research. To achieve this, 32 studies published up to 2023 that include these five concepts as keywords were analyzed. Furthermore, this study explores the possibilities for further development of Bakhtin’s theory within the existing research trends in literature education and emphasizes the need for a social turn in the approach to his work.
