This research investigated the negative effects of post-traumatic stress disorder on minority employee psychological processes and how this negative effects were moderated by employee everyday stress and family friendly policy. A social enterprise is a business that pursues to achieve social objectives that serve its primary purpose. Employees in many social enterprises consist of minorities such as individuals with disabilities, seniors, north korean defectors, victims of crime and so on. Given that these minority employees are likely to suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder, it is purposed to examine and provide information and knowledge of how to manage minority employees with post-traumatic stress disorder in the context of social enterprieses. The main focus was on how minority employees’ post-traumatic stress disorder would negatively inflence their burnout level and then how employees’ burnout would negatively influence their coworkers’ job engagement and organizational commitment. Additionally, it was examined how the negative effects of employee post-traumatic stress disorder would be moderated by employee everyday stress and family friendly policy. To verify research hypotheses, a paper-based survey was conducted in the large smaple pool of 2122 certified social enterprieses and 102 resonses were collected and analysed. Results supported research all the hypotheses: employees’ post-traumatic stress disorder was positively related to their burnout and employees’ burnout was negatively related to their coworkers’ job engagement and organizational commitment; the negatively relationship between employees’ post-traumatic stress disorder and burnout was moderated by their everyday stress such that, as everyday stress was higher, employees’ post-traumatic stress disorder was more strongly related to burnout. Finally, this moderation effect of everyday stress was weakened by the extent to which social enterprises adopted family friendly policies such that, as family friendly policies were adopted more, the extent to which everyday stress weakened the PTSD-burnout relationship was lessened. Theoretical and empirical contributions of this research were, first, to enhance our knowledge and understanding of post-traumatic stress disorder and minority employee management which were largely disregarded in the current management literature. Second, this research provide prescriptive suggestions of how to cope with the negative impact of employees’ post-traumatic stress disorder and everyday stress by highlighting the importance of family friendly policies in social enterprises.
